Exclusive Interview With One Of Manchester's Best! - DJ Jini Cowan

For those who don’t know you, who are you?
Hey guys, Im Jini Cowan and Im a female DJ and Producer from Manchester!

How old were you when you got your first gig? And where was it?
I was 17 when I got my first gig, and it was at a place called 'Cape' in my hometown of Sale!

Which venues have you played at and which is your favourite?
In Manchester Ive played at; Opus, Entourage, Colisieum, Revolution, Sankeys, Avici White, Sound Control, Sakura, Purple Pussycat and Club HD. Aside from this Ive also played at the EGG and PACHA in London.
My favourite venue to play at was probably Sankeys, as its one of the highest ranked clubs in the world hosting some of the world's biggest house DJs, and is a favourite place of mine to go out too!

What advice could you give to up and coming DJ's / producers wanting to get there name out there?
The main piece of advice id give to upcoming artists or DJs is never give up! The music industry is tough, and this can sometimes be an easy option to take when things get too much, but believe me perseverance is the key to success!

Who are your main musical influences?
My main musical influences are probably above and beyond, as I was brought up classically. I love the way they produce their music incorporating classical and electronic sounds, their music can take you on a special journey in your head. Ive also seen them Djing live.. absolutely amazing!

Top 5 tracks of the moment?
Tim Mason - The Moment (angello remix)
Seb Leger - Bees
Aloe blacc - I need a dolla ( Zinc Remix)
Ridney - At Night
Avicii - ID (Levels)

Up to now, what is your greatest achievement DJ wise?
Thats a tough question, I feel like what ive achieved to the present day in my DJing career is a massive achievement, but the most important would probably be releasing a track with Jon Fitz.

If you hosted your own party, which 3 DJ's would you have play?
Wow, there's so many I would have, but definitely Mark Knight, Magnetic Man, and Carl Cox!

Any big productions to look out for?
ive just completed my first release with Mr Jon Fitz, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.. itl be getting signed in the next couple of weeks!

How would you describe your own sound and way of producing?
Hmm id say 'like no other' thats original right? haha.

What tracks that you've produced would you consider your all-time favourite?
Well im working on an EP at the moment, but I really like mine and Jon's track.. the pianos create a really summery vibe.. think it's gonna be a big hit this summer... if im allowed to say that myself! ;)

What software do you usually use?
I usually use logic for production but also use pro tools for recording.

Imagine the world's ending tomorrow. You've got one last set to play at any club, anywhere in the world. Where are you playing and why?
Definitely Amnesia! Thats a club that ive always dreamed of playing at, one day... one day!!

Favourite DJ?
I couldnt possibly answer that question there's too many to choose from!

Favourite drink during a performance?
I dont really drink when im working as I dont need it to enjoy myself, infact I drink water or redbull most of the time.. but if i do drink, it has to be archers and lemonade!

You can listen to my track 'The Cold Pump' here :

We would just like to say thanks to you jini for giving us this interview!
